4th ANNUAL TEXAS FOSTER YOUTH CONFERENCE

On May 28-29, 2010, Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend will host the 4th Annual Texas Foster Youth Conference bringing together foster youth from across the state to offer informative workshops on stimulating topics of interest to increase their life skills knowledge and guide them on their path to personal and economic fulfillment. Target audience is youth between the ages of 14 to 24 who are preparing to enter adulthood.

Ice T, actor and rap musician, is the featured keynote speaker for the conference. Ice T, who was orphaned at the age of 11 years, will talk about the adversities in his life and his rise to fame. A rap contest will be held Friday night before the dance to select a rapper or rapper group to meet Ice T.

Workshops to be offered include legal rights information, cultural identity, sexual health education, job readiness, mock interviews, and the simulated exercise, Independent City. A Resource Fair will be hosted in conjunction with the conference with colleges, training providers and social service agencies represented.

Conference workshops for staff development include: improving customer service; teambuilding; case management; accessing other resources; permanency efforts; and, motivational speakers. Continuing Education Units (CEU) will be awarded for this conference at the cost of $10.

The conference kicks off at 1:00 pm on Friday at the Marriott River Center which is on the San Antonio River walk located downtown and concludes at 5:00pm on Saturday. Conference room rate is $99 (the state rate in San Antonio is $117) and daily parking is $10. This rate will be offered Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Early registration at $150 (includes meals for both days) until May 7. After May 7 the registration fee increases to $200.
